One Health Centre and Mycetoma Research Centre Launch Strategic Research Discussion Group

The One Health Centre at National University–Sudan, in partnership with the Mycetoma Research Centre, has announced the launch of the Mycetoma Research Discussion Group. This collaborative scientific platform is designed to explore innovative strategies and future perspectives for advancing research, diagnostics, and therapeutics for this neglected tropical disease.

By bringing together global researchers, healthcare professionals, and academic students, the initiative aims to address the critical challenges currently surrounding mycetoma management. The forum will focus on identifying vital research gaps and fostering the interdisciplinary, cross-sector cooperation necessary to develop effective, accessible, and sustainable treatment solutions.

The discussion group will facilitate knowledge exchange, international collaboration, and capacity-building across several priority areas:

  • Innovative therapeutic strategies: Reviewing clinical management frameworks and treatment protocols.
  • Drug discovery: Advancing pharmaceutical development and identifying novel compound targets.
  • Public health interventions: Enhancing early diagnostic approaches and community-level screening tools.
  • One Health integration: Applying multidisciplinary frameworks to address the ecological, animal, and human health intersections of neglected tropical diseases.
  • Research partnerships: Scaling capacity-building opportunities and international scientific networks.

Through this strategic initiative, both centres aim to strengthen scientific collaboration, elevate regional research capacity, and directly contribute to improved patient outcomes and global health policy.
