National University Alumni Spearhead Vital Humanitarian Health Mission in Al-Affad Camp

Main Campus, Khartoum

In an exemplary demonstration of professional responsibility and humanitarian commitment, alumni from the National University – Sudan have played a pivotal role in a crucial medical intervention at the Al-Affad Camp. Led by the distinguished Professor Bakri Musa Abdelkarim and Ambassador Dr Muawiya Al-Toom, this impactful initiative was delivered in proud partnership with Al-Raqi Hospital.

The mission serves as a powerful testament to the integration of academic excellence and clinical practice, illustrating how university education directly translates into profound community service.

Urgent Clinical Interventions and Lives Saved

In collaboration with the Humanity Foundation and the Sudanese-American Relief and Development Centre (SARC), the team deployed an urgent healthcare response within the camp. The intervention focused heavily on maternal healthcare and neglected orthopaedic conditions, providing immediate medical care that successfully saved lives and improved long-term quality of life.

Key achievements of the medical mission included:

  • Maternal and Neonatal Care: Monitoring high-risk pregnancies and ensuring safe deliveries for mothers in critical conditions.
  • Orthopaedic Rehabilitation: Diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating patients with severe, long-standing orthopaedic issues, effectively restoring their mobility and independence.
