“Khatwat Aman” Initiative Event to Combat Drug Abuse
In a significant step towards fostering a drug-free campus, the university celebrated on 15-Feb-2025 the inaugural event of the “Khatwat Aman” (Safety Step) Initiative. The event is the culmination of an intensive training programme that began last November, empowering 26 student ambassadors to lead awareness efforts against narcotics.
Interactive Awareness Exhibitions
The programme kicked off with an exhibition tour featuring several specialised booths:
- Drug Enforcement Administration Exhibition: Showcasing illustrative samples to educate the community on the dangers of various substances.
- Risk & Treatment Hubs: Focused on the physical and psychological impact of addiction and the scientific pathways to recovery and relapse prevention.
- Legal Awareness: Clarifying university regulations and national laws regarding drug possession and trafficking.
Education Through Art and Science
In the Grand Hall, the Dean of Student Affairs highlighted the crucial role of students as peer educators. The event also featured a documentary video of the training phases and a purposeful comedic drama performed by the students to engage the audience.
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, Deputy Secretary of Scientific Affairs, and Mr. Al-Rashid Hassan from the Drug Enforcement Administration. They both emphasised the university’s commitment to supporting such student-led initiatives to ensure a safe and healthy academic environment.
