Student Activities During the War Period and in Safe and Displacement Areas

Amidst the challenges imposed by the war, students of the National University exemplified resilience, compassion, and a deep sense of social responsibility. Their dedication to serving communities in both safe and displacement areas reflects the university’s enduring mission to link knowledge with humanitarian action and contribute to the well-being of society.

  1. Health and Field Outreach

Medical and laboratory students organized free medical examinations, laboratory tests, and medication distribution in neighborhoods and displacement centers. These outreach activities provided essential healthcare to vulnerable populations while reinforcing students’ sense of professional duty and empathy.

  1. Dental Health and School Programs

The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Surgery, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Guidance of the Red Sea State, launched a comprehensive School Health and Awareness Program.

The initiative provided dental examinations, treatments, and referrals for 487 students to the National University Dental Clinics. Procedures included extractions, cleanings, and minor surgeries, conducted in displacement centers and Port Sudan neighborhoods.

This program demonstrated the university’s proactive role in safeguarding oral health and raising community awareness, particularly among school-age children.

  1. Health Education and Awareness

Health education lectures were delivered in displacement centers, schools, and specialized institutions such as juvenile reform centers and centers for individuals with special needs. Topics included oral hygiene, disease prevention, and healthy living.

The Scientific Association of Medical Students further organized a workshop titled “World Cancer Day” on February 4, 2025, reaffirming the university’s leadership in health promotion and knowledge dissemination.

Workshop Highlights:

Raising awareness about cancer prevention, diagnosis, and patient care.

Presentations by medical students and a psychological researcher.

Interactive discussions and practical demonstrations on diagnosis.

Attendance of 40 students, faculty members, and physicians.

The workshop represented a significant step in strengthening the culture of medical awareness and community health education among students.

  1. Blood Donation Campaigns

Under the slogan “Social Solidarity and Humanity,” students, supervised by the Central Blood Bank, and in collaboration with Sawaaed Al-Wataniya Charity Association, the Sudanese Association for Cancer Patients (Tadaai), and the Scientific Association of Medical Students, organized a blood donation drive to save lives and promote humanitarian values.

Campaign Outcomes:

Total donors: 89

Medically ineligible participants: 19

Blood units collected: 70 bottles

Estimated beneficiaries: 210 patients

This initiative strengthened the culture of voluntary giving and highlighted the important role of youth in supporting healthcare systems during times of crisis.

  1. Food Collection and Distribution to poor and marginalized people

Students from various faculties joined efforts under the National Sawaaed Al-Wataniya Charity Association and NUSMSA to organize the Seventh Annual Ramadan Food Basket Initiative on February 28, 2025.

A total of 110 Ramadan food baskets were distributed in:

Port Sudan: 50 baskets

Omdurman: 10 baskets

Shendi: 50 baskets

Each basket included essential food items such as flour, sugar, cooking oil, onions, and dates. The initiative symbolized the university community’s compassion and solidarity with displaced families and individuals in need.

  1. Clothing Campaigns

Students, staff, and university workers conducted a blanket and winter clothing drive under the National Sawaaed Association, providing warmth and comfort to families affected by displacement and harsh weather.

  1. Anti-Drug Awareness Lectures

University scientific associations delivered lectures addressing the dangers of drug abuse, addiction, and treatment methods. These sessions aimed to educate students and young people about the consequences of drug use while encouraging healthy lifestyles and positive behavioral change.

  1. Educational and Technological Development

The Scientific Association of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology organized an awareness program titled “Technology Map” on April 15, 2025. The event bridged the gap between technology and psychology, focusing on innovation, creativity, and self-development.

The program attracted 85 participants, including students, faculty members, and deans from multiple faculties. It received exceptional feedback for enhancing students’ motivation and reinforcing the importance of continuous learning and innovation.
