National University Center in Port Sudan Celebrates the 70th Anniversary of Sudan’s Independence
The courtyard of the National University Center in Port Sudan witnessed a national event on Saturday, January 3, and Sunday, January 4, during which the sons and daughters of the nation expressed their love and deep sense of belonging. All male and female students of the university gathered to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Sudan’s glorious independence.
The students affirmed that the Sudanese people are free and dignified, and that the youth of Sudan are capable of rebuilding the nation hand in hand.
The accompanying exhibitions formed a journey through time between the past and the present, highlighting the development of science in Sudan before and after independence, as presented by the students.

The students adorned themselves in the colors of the Sudanese flag, while the female students wore the beautiful and simple traditional Sudanese thobe, reflecting the spirit of national identity.
The students also organized a charity bazaar in support of displaced people, featuring handmade products, sweets, pastries, and accessories carrying national symbols such as the Secretary Bird, the Sudanese flag, and expressive patriotic slogans.

In the conference hall, an official ceremony was held to mark the occasion. The program opened with recitations from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a speech by the Dean of Student Affairs, which introduced the significance of independence. This was followed by a segment of national poetry presented by the students, and then a rich lecture delivered by the Vice-Chancellor of the university. The lecture addressed the depth of Sudanese civilization, the conditions in neighboring countries at the time Sudan gained independence, the developments that preceded independence, and concluded with a discussion of the factors that contributed to achieving independence.

Afterwards, a cultural video on independence was presented by students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology.
The Faculty of International Relations and Diplomatic Studies also made a distinguished contribution, during which Dr. Salah Al-Mubarak delivered a profound speech on Homeland and identity, followed by a speech by the faculty’s student representatives. The program concluded with a speech by the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the University President, after which attendees visited the exhibitions and charity bazaars.
