Quality Department
The Quality Department at the National University of Sudan is a key institutional entity dedicated to promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across all aspects of the university’s operations. Its primary mandate is to promote and uphold the highest standards in academic programmes, research activities, administrative functions, and community engagement. As the central body responsible for quality assurance, the Department develops comprehensive policies, frameworks, and strategies that guide the university’s efforts toward achieving and maintaining institutional excellence.
The Department serves as the nucleus for developing, implementing, and monitoring robust quality assurance systems that encompass curriculum development, faculty qualifications, student services, research outputs, and administrative processes. It ensures that all university activities align with internationally recognised standards, thereby enhancing the university’s reputation both locally and globally. This includes establishing benchmarks, conducting regular internal evaluations, and facilitating external audits and accreditation processes to verify and improve institutional performance.
Established in response to the National University of Sudan’s vision to become a leading hub of knowledge, research, and community service, the Quality Department was created to foster a sustained culture of continuous improvement and innovation. It emphasises the importance of quality as a shared responsibility among faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders, encouraging active participation and engagement at all levels.
The Department ’s efforts are guided by alignment with international quality standards and best practices, such as those set by UNESCO, the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), and other regional and global accreditation agencies. Its role extends to overseeing accreditation initiatives, supporting academic programme evaluations, and facilitating institutional reviews to ensure compliance with both national regulations and international benchmarks. Through these activities, the Department aims to elevate the university’s academic and research standards, support strategic growth, and ensure that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of a competitive global landscape.

Accreditation and Quality Standards
The National University of Sudan was among the pioneering Sudanese universities to implement a comprehensive quality assurance programme that integrates quality into all its sectors. This initiative involves delivering advisory, executive, and academic programmes designed to meet the genuine needs of society, enhance performance across all university operations, and establish systems that ensure work is carried out with the highest efficiency and quality. Additionally, the university regularly evaluates its performance against specific standards, enabling it to remain competitive both locally and internationally.
Since its establishment in 2005, the National University has consistently prioritised adherence to national and international quality standards in its educational offerings and outputs. Notably, it received the institutional and programme accreditation from the British Accreditation Council in the United Kingdom in 2015, with subsequent renewals in 2018 and 2020, reflecting its ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality academic standards.
The University is committed to attaining and maintaining accreditation from national and international accreditation bodies. The Quality Department oversees compliance with standards such as:
- The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sudan
- Regional and international accreditation agencies (e.g., ABET, AACSB, WFME accreditation for health sciences programmes).
